What does the Bible say about compassion and gratitude?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible emphasizes that true compassion and gratitude come from recognizing God's grace in delivering us from judgment.

The Bible teaches that when we read about God's judgment against the unbelieving world, we should respond with gratitude as we recognize the grace that has been extended to us. In Isaiah 47, we see God's judgment upon Babylon, yet His people are called to reflect on their own deliverance and to feel compassion for those who are yet to be delivered from the wrath to come. This is not a matter of boasting in our own righteousness; rather, it positions us to acknowledge that what we have, we have received by God's free grace. Thus, we are reminded to have a heart that is both grateful and burdened for those who do not know the love of Christ.
