What does the Bible say about deception?

Answered in 4 sources

The Bible teaches that all are born into deception, particularly the deception that leads us to believe we can save ourselves through our own actions.

The Bible addresses the issue of deception extensively, particularly in the context of spiritual truth. Romans 1:25 describes how people change the truth of God into a lie, leading them away from true worship of the Creator to the worship of created things. This deception is not limited to a few but encompasses all of humanity since the fall. 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 further explains that there is a strong delusion sent by God as a consequence for rejecting the truth of the gospel, which leaves individuals believing the lie instead of seeking true salvation. Ultimately, this deception takes us all in, completely and utterly, requiring divine intervention for deliverance.
