What does the Bible say about denying ourselves?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that to follow Christ, we must deny ourselves and take up our cross daily (Matthew 16:24).

In Matthew 16:24, Jesus calls his disciples to a radical commitment, saying, "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." This call to denial of self is central to the Christian faith. It means placing Christ and His will above our desires and ambitions. The act of taking up one's cross signifies embracing the truth and the sacrifices that may come with following Christ, including persecution and rejection. The essence of this teaching is a reorientation of our lives towards Christ, rather than worldly pursuits.
