What does the Bible say about faith and signs from God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, not based on visible signs.

The Scriptures clearly demonstrate that true faith is not founded upon physical signs or miracles, but rather is based solely on the promises of God as revealed in His Word. In Matthew 16:1-4, we see Jesus confront the Pharisees and Sadducees, who demanded a sign to prove His authority. Jesus responded by calling them hypocrites, indicating their inability to discern spiritual truths while they could interpret the weather. This illustrates that demanding signs is a form of incredulity that undermines genuine faith. Scripture encourages believers to trust in the Word of God, which is sufficient to lead us to salvation (Hebrews 2:1-4). The assurance we have in Christ comes from the work of the Holy Spirit, not from visible evidence or signs.
