What does the Bible say about faith in forgiveness?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible emphasizes that faith is crucial for forgiving others, reflecting our understanding of how much we have been forgiven by God.

Faith plays a significant role in our ability to forgive others, as it enables us to recognize the depth of our own sin and the magnitude of God's grace in forgiving us. Jesus teaches that the measure of forgiveness we extend to others reflects the understanding we have of our own forgiveness (Luke 17:3-4). When we comprehend how much we have been forgiven, our hearts are moved to extend that forgiveness to others, no matter how many times they might offend us. This perspective allows us to overcome bitterness and resentment, as we understand that no sin against us can compare to the infinite debt we owed God—which Christ paid on our behalf. Faith not only reveals our own undeserving status but also empowers us to act graciously towards others, fulfilling the command to forgive fully and freely.
