What does the Bible say about faith's role in salvation?

Answered in 1 source

Faith is a grace given by God, and it is always directed toward the Lord Jesus Christ as the object of salvation.

The Bible teaches that faith is not a work we produce but rather a grace given to us by God. In Luke 7:50, Jesus tells the woman, 'Your faith has saved you,' but it's crucial to understand that her faith does not save in isolation; rather, it is the object of her faith—Christ Himself—that accomplishes salvation. Faith, therefore, is a gift from God that stems from His sovereign grace, aligning with Ephesians 2:8, which states that by grace we have been saved through faith, and that not of ourselves; it is the gift of God. Any appearance of merit in faith is misleading, as true faith rests entirely on the grace of God and directs itself to Christ alone as the source of salvation.
