What does the Bible say about following traditions versus Scripture?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible calls believers to uphold Scripture above human traditions as the ultimate authority.

In today’s context, many follow doctrines and practices that stem from human traditions rather than divine revelation. Jesus Himself challenged the religious leaders of His day for elevating their traditions over God’s Word (Matthew 15:6). The authority of the Scriptures cannot be mingled with human-made traditions if we are to remain faithful to the gospel message. II Timothy 3:16 emphasizes that all Scripture is God-breathed and authoritative for teaching, correction, and instruction, which should guide Christians in discerning truth from error. Thus, following Scripture ensures alignment with God's will, while adherence to mere traditions risks compromise of the gospel's integrity.
