What does the Bible say about forgiveness in prayer?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that forgiveness is essential in prayer, as seen in Matthew 6:14-15, where Jesus emphasizes the importance of forgiving others to receive forgiveness from God.

In Matthew 6:12-15, Jesus instructs us that forgiving others is crucial to our relationship with God. He clearly states, 'For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.' This is not implying a works-based salvation but highlights that a true understanding of God's grace leads to a spirit of forgiveness towards others. When we recognize how much we've been forgiven by God, it compels us to extend that grace to others. The essence of this teaching is that forgiveness is both a response to God’s grace and a necessary attitude within the community of believers.
