What does the Bible say about forsaking everything to follow Jesus?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that to be a disciple of Jesus, one must forsake all attachments that hinder obedience to Him.

In Luke 14:25-27, Jesus states that any person who wants to follow Him must hate their family and even their own life in comparison to their commitment to Him. This strong language indicates the absolute priority that discipleship requires. True discipleship means that one must be willing to give up all earthly allegiances and comforts in order to fully obey Christ. It is not merely about performing good deeds but about a radical transformation of priorities where Christ takes precedence over everything else in life.
