What does the Bible say about God dwelling in a temple?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that God does not dwell in temples made with hands but instead in the body of His Son, Jesus Christ.

In the biblical narrative, particularly evident in the Old Testament, there was a significant focus on the temple as a physical dwelling place for God. Solomon built the temple to house the Ark of the Covenant, but even he recognized that God cannot be contained by a structure. Scripture states in 1 Kings 8:27, ‘But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, the heaven and heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house that I have built?’ This speaks to God's omnipresence and sovereignty. The true dwelling of God is through His Son, Jesus Christ, where the fullness of the Godhead resides (Colossians 2:9). The New Testament reveals that believers are now the temple of God, where He resides through His Spirit.
