What does the Bible say about God's presence in suffering?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible assures believers that God is always with them, even in times of suffering, as He never forsakes His people.

The Scriptures indicate that while God’s manifest presence may sometimes seem hidden, He is always present with His people, fighting for and protecting them. This is exemplified in Exodus 14, where the children of Israel found themselves in a seemingly hopeless situation, facing the Red Sea with Pharaoh’s army behind them. Despite visible troubles, God, represented by the angel of the Lord, was behind them as their rear guard, ensuring their safety. In times of distress and sorrow, believers can trust in the promise that God is with them, as He has said, 'I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.' This assurance brings comfort during the darkest hours, as God often uses these trials to draw His people closer to Him and to refine their faith.
