What does the Bible say about grace being unmerited?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that grace is entirely unmerited and not based on human works (Romans 11:6).

According to Romans 11:6, grace is defined as unmerited favor from God; if salvation is by grace, then it cannot include works. The moment any human effort is introduced, grace ceases to be grace. This illustrates the complete dependency of salvation on God's sovereign choice and action, as opposed to any merit on our part. As believers, we must embrace that our salvation is owing altogether to the grace of God, front to back, and any work we attempt would ultimately disqualify us from the very essence of grace.
