What does the Bible say about gratitude in salvation?

In Colossians 1:3-14, the Apostle Paul stresses the necessity of giving thanks to God for the blessings of salvation. Paul provides a model by directly praising God for the faith, love, and hope of the Colossians, attributing their salvation to God's grace alone. If salvation were merely a result of human free will, gratitude would justly be directed toward man.
