What does the Bible say about having a good name?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that a good name is to be chosen over great riches, highlighting the importance of reputation over material wealth.

Proverbs 22:1 states that a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches. This underscores the value of character and reputation in the eyes of God and others. From the fall of man, humans have sought self-glory and esteem, wanting recognition and fame. However, true goodness can only be found in God, whose name is the only one that is excellent (Psalm 148:12-13). As believers, we are reminded that while man desires a name for himself, it is through living in accordance with God's will and seeking His glory that we find true honor.
