What does the Bible say about having an advocate?

Answered in 7 sources

The Bible states that Jesus Christ is our advocate with the Father, who intercedes for us when we sin (1 John 2:1).

In 1 John 2:1, the Apostle John writes that if any man sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. This emphasizes that even though we are called to sin not, the reality of our sinful nature means we will inevitably fall short. However, we are not left without hope, for we have Jesus Christ advocating for us before God. He pleads our case not on the basis of our merit, but on His own righteousness, which is perfect and sufficient to satisfy the demands of divine justice.
