What does the Bible say about hopelessness and helplessness?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible shows that hopelessness and helplessness are consequences of sin in our lives.

In John 5, we see a clear illustration of hopelessness and helplessness through the man at the pool of Bethesda. This man was unable to move and did not have anyone to help him, which is a representation of humanity's condition without Christ. Sin has decimated the human race, leaving many in a state of despair. However, it is through recognizing our hopelessness that we understand our need for the saving grace of God. Only in Christ can we find true hope and help, as He came to save us not just from the guilt of sin, but also from its power.
