What does the Bible say about how God can forgive sinners?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that God can forgive sinners while remaining just by punishing Christ for our sins.

The Bible clearly states that God is both just and the justifier (Romans 3:26). He cannot simply overlook sin; rather, He demonstrates His justice by pouring out His wrath upon His Son, who was made sin for us (2 Corinthians 5:21). This means that through the sacrificial death of Jesus, our sins are purged, satisfying the demands of justice while allowing God to extend forgiveness. Thus, by mercy and truth, iniquity is purged (Proverbs 16:6), fulfilling God's holy character while accomplishing the salvation of sinners.
