What does the Bible say about how to come to God?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that coming to God requires humility and faith in Christ alone, acknowledging our inability to earn salvation.

The Bible clearly instructs us that coming to God must be done with nothing in our hands, relying solely on the grace and mercy that Jesus Christ provides. In Micah 6:6-8, we see the futility of approaching God with religious works such as burnt offerings or sacrifices. Rather, what God requires is a posture of humility, justice, and a love for mercy towards Him. True coming to God requires recognizing our sinfulness and trusting in Christ's redemptive work. Salvation is a gift of grace; God requires faith, but it is He who must grant us that faith. In John 16:7-8, it highlights the role of the Holy Spirit in convincing us of our need for Christ and the righteousness that He provides, not what we can do for ourselves.
