What does the Bible say about human fear and faith?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible acknowledges human fear but emphasizes that having fears does not equate to a lack of faith.

In scripture, it is natural for human beings to feel fear, especially regarding the unknown, as seen in the life of Christ. For example, when Jesus faced His impending death in Gethsemane, He expressed deep sorrow and asked, 'If it be possible, let this cup pass from me' (Matthew 26:39). Yet, He submitted to the Father's will, demonstrating that fear and faith can coexist. This indicates that our fears do not disqualify us from being children of God.

Moreover, in Hebrews 5:7, we learn that during His earthly life, Jesus offered prayers and supplications with strong cries and tears, illustrating the reality of fear even in the Son of God. This reaffirms that experiencing fear does not detract from our faith; rather, it's an integral part of the human experience. As children of God, we can learn from Christ's example, finding comfort in our fears while placing our trust in God's promises.
