What does the Bible say about Jehoash's influence on worship?

Answered in 1 source

Jehoash did right as long as he was influenced by Jehoiada the priest, but after Jehoiada's death, he turned to idolatry.

In 2 Kings 12, we see that Jehoash did right in the sight of the Lord all his days while Jehoiada, the priest, instructed him. This highlights the significant power of godly influences in a person's life. However, after Jehoiada's death, Jehoash succumbed to flattery and led the nation into idolatry, demonstrating that external influences can sometimes mask an internal condition of the heart. Once the strong influence of Jehoiada was removed, Jehoash revealed his true self, which was a heart prone to compromise and apostasy. This serves as a lesson about the importance of surrounding ourselves with godly influences and the dangers of apostasy when such influences are removed.
