What does the Bible say about Jesus as a king?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible presents Jesus as both a spiritual king and a political figure, but emphasizes His role as the savior from sin.

In John 12, Jesus enters Jerusalem, fulfilling prophecies and establishing His role as the King. However, the people were looking for a political king who would deliver them from Roman oppression. Jesus, instead, comes as a spiritual king, highlighting His mission to save His people from their sins. Zechariah 9:9 foretells Him as just and having salvation, riding on a donkey — a sign of peace, not war. Thus, the significance lies in understanding that while He is acknowledged as a king, His primary role is to bring salvation rather than political redemption.
