What does the Bible say about joy and sorrow in the Christian life?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that Christians experience joy and sorrow due to forgiveness of sin and ongoing struggles with it.

Psalm 126 reflects on the duality of joy and sorrow in the life of a believer. While Christians enjoy the happiness that comes from the forgiveness of sins, they grapple with the reality that sin still exists in their lives. Our troubles differ fundamentally from those of the world; we know they arise from a spiritual nature, where those born of God understand their true troubles. Despite the sad realities we face, the promise that 'there is therefore now no condemnation' for those who are in Christ gives us profound joy amidst our struggles.
