What does the Bible say about Judas's repentance?

Answered in 1 source

Judas's repentance was not true godly repentance, as he was more sorry for being caught than for his sin.

In the case of Judas, we see a profound example of false repentance. When he realized that Jesus was condemned, he returned the thirty pieces of silver and declared, 'I have sinned.' However, this was a sorrow stemming from being caught in his betrayal rather than a true turning away from sin as offered by God's Spirit. True repentance involves an acknowledgment of one's sinful nature and turning away from it entirely, not merely a regret for consequences or isolated acts. Judas's actions highlight how even a realization of wrongdoing does not equate to genuine repentance that leads to salvation.
