What does the Bible say about knowledge in religion?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible emphasizes that knowledge without grace is useless, as demonstrated by the crowd's understanding yet unbelief in Jesus.

In John 7:40-53, we see that a certain degree of religious knowledge is important; yet, knowledge alone, devoid of grace, leads to spiritual blindness. The crowd recognized scriptural truths about the Messiah's birthplace but failed to see that Jesus, the Messiah, stood before them. This highlights that merely being familiar with Scripture does not equate to genuine faith or salvation. True understanding involves both the intellect and a heart transformed by grace, as even the demons can acknowledge truth without yielding faith (James 2:19). Therefore, we must strive for heart-knowledge, which is the true work of the Holy Spirit.
