What does the Bible say about looking to God for mercy?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches us to lift our eyes to God, seeking His mercy as we acknowledge our unworthiness.

In Psalm 123, the psalmist lifts his eyes to the One who dwells in the heavens, recognizing His sovereignty and mercy. This posture symbolizes dependence on God for grace, similar to how servants look to their masters. In verse 3, the psalmist confesses that he is filled with contempt and shame, reflecting a deep understanding of human depravity and the need for divine mercy. Just as the publican in Luke 18 could not lift his eyes, understanding his sinful state, we too must acknowledge our need for God's grace continually.
