What does the Bible say about making images of God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible explicitly forbids the making of any graven images or likenesses of God.

In Exodus 20:4-5, God commands, 'Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath.' This clear prohibition is rooted in the understanding that God is spirit and cannot be accurately represented by physical forms. The making of images detracts from the true means of worshiping God, which is in spirit and in truth. Such imagery can easily lead to idolatry, where the focus is shifted from God’s true nature to mere representations that distort or mislead our understanding of His holiness.
