After the fall, man lost all spiritual capacity to respond to God positively.

The Bible teaches that when man fell in the Garden of Eden, he lost all spiritual capacity. He is unable to positively respond in faith to God's words. Although he can hear and understand intellectually, he cannot comprehend or perceive the truth of those words without divine intervention. Only through the grace of God can a person be restored to spiritual life and understand the gospel, as it takes the transformative power of grace to enable a proper response.
