What does the Bible say about motives in giving?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible emphasizes that our motives in giving should be for God's glory rather than to be seen by men.

In Matthew 6:1, Jesus warns believers to be cautious about their motives when performing acts of righteousness, such as giving alms. He stresses that if we do these acts to be seen by others, we will have no reward from our Father in heaven. Instead, true giving should come from a desire to honor God and not to seek the praise of men. Genesis 15:1 illustrates that God Himself is our exceeding great reward, and having a personal relationship with Him should be our ultimate motive for all our actions, including giving.
