What does the Bible say about natural religion?

Answered in 1 source

Natural religion cannot save; it restrains depravity but lacks the light of the gospel.

The Bible acknowledges that all men have a conscience of God's existence, as seen in Romans 1:18-20, which reflects the reality that natural religion can lead to moral behavior but cannot lead to salvation. The Maltese people, described as barbarians, exhibited a natural awareness of God; they recognized moral truths and the concept of divine justice. However, their religion was ultimately perverted and insufficient without the gospel. Only through the revelation of Christ can true faith and salvation occur, as outlined in Romans 10:17.
