What does the Bible say about our former state before Christ?

Answered in 1 source

Before Christ, we were dead in sins, without hope and without God, alienated from the promises of God.

Ephesians 2 describes the dire condition of humanity before knowing Christ. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we were once dead in sins, described as Gentiles who were without Christ, aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and without hope in the world. This state reflects a complete spiritual darkness and ignorance, where we lived only for the temporary pleasures of this world, utterly disconnected from the true God and void of any understanding of His grace. Such contrast heightens our appreciation of the grace and mercy found in Christ, who brings us from death to life, making us alive in God through faith in Him.
