What does the Bible say about persecution in the early church?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible describes persecution in the early church as a sovereign act of God leading to the spread of the Gospel.

In Acts 8, we see the first serious persecution against the church following the martyrdom of Stephen. This persecution, ordained by God, resulted in believers being scattered throughout Judea and Samaria. Rather than quelling the church, this scattering led to the Gospel being preached more widely as those dispersed shared the Word of God. The early church experienced significant trials, but through them, God demonstrated His sovereignty and faithfulness, allowing the church to grow even amidst suffering.
