What does the Bible say about prayer and persistence?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that prayer should be urgent and persistent, but not as a way to pester God into giving gifts.

In Luke 11:5-8, Jesus uses the example of a friend who reluctantly provides bread to illustrate that while persistence in prayer is important, it's not because God is reluctant to bless us. The example serves to contrast our Heavenly Father, who delights in giving good gifts and is never inconvenienced by our requests. This teaching emphasizes that prayer should flow from a deep sense of need and urgency for divine help, recognizing God’s willingness to provide without the need for repeated demands. True importunity in prayer reflects a heart desperate for God's grace, knowing that we need Him continually in our lives.
