What does the Bible say about priesthood?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that Christ is the sole high priest mediating between God and man, fulfilling the role of the Levitical priests.

In Hebrews 5, it is emphasized that the priesthood is essential for reconciliation between sinful humanity and the holy God. This chapter explains that while earthly priests, particularly from the Levitical line, served as mediators, they were imperfect and needed to make sacrifices for their own sins. In contrast, Christ, our high priest, is perfect, having offered Himself as a single, all-sufficient sacrifice for sin. This reality highlights that the Levitical priesthood, which was merely a picture, has been overtaken by Christ's eternal priesthood after the order of Melchizedek.
