What does the Bible say about profitability to God?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that man cannot be profitable to God, as He is self-sufficient and needs nothing from us.

In Job 22:2, Eliphaz questions, 'Can a man be profitable unto God?' This inquiry is met with the understanding that God, in His infinite sufficiency, requires nothing from mankind. God is perfect, complete, and absolutely self-sufficient, rendering human efforts to gain favor redundant. Romans 11:35-36 confirms this notion, stating that all things come from God, through Him, and are ultimately for His glory. Therefore, no action or sacrifice of ours can add to or detract from His perfection. Our value in God's sight is derived solely from Christ, who represents us as our advocate.
