What does the Bible say about recognizing Jesus?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that many, including Mary and the disciples, did not recognize Jesus during his first coming due to their spiritual blindness.

Many people failed to recognize Jesus during his earthly ministry, as highlighted in the scripture. For instance, Mary at the tomb did not know that it was Jesus standing before her (John 20:14). This spiritual blindness is not from Christ, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The scriptures indicate that people often seek Christ among dead rituals and traditions, failing to recognize him as the risen Lord (Luke 24:5). As stated in John 1:10, he was in the world, and the world was made by him, yet it did not know him, illustrating a profound spiritual misunderstanding mixed with human expectation.
