What does the Bible say about representation in Adam and Christ?

Answered in 10 sources

The Bible teaches that through Adam's disobedience, sin and death entered the world, representing all humanity, while Christ's obedience provides justification and life to those He represents.

In Romans 5, the Apostle Paul explains the concept of representation through the actions of Adam and Christ. Adam acts as our Federal Head, representing all of humanity in his disobedience, which brought sin and death into the world (Romans 5:12). Conversely, Christ, our Federal Head, represents all who believe in Him, and His obedience leads to the offer of righteousness and justification to those He represents (Romans 5:19). This dual representation illustrates the theological foundation of imputation, where Adam's sin is charged to all humans, while Christ's righteousness is imputed to believers, providing the basis for salvation and eternal life.
