What does the Bible say about representation in the Gospel?

Answered in 3 sources

The Bible teaches that all humanity is represented by either Adam or Christ, with our guilt or righteousness based on their actions.

The doctrine of representation is foundational in understanding the Gospel. According to Scripture, God sees humanity in one of two representatives: the first Adam or the Lord Jesus Christ, the second Adam. This signifies that our standing before God is not based on our individual actions, but rather on what our representative has accomplished. If we are in Adam, we inherit guilt and condemnation due to his sin (Genesis 3:6). Conversely, if we are in Christ, we receive His perfect righteousness and stand justified before God (Romans 5:19).
