What does the Bible say about righteousness and morality?

The Scriptures present a clear distinction between righteousness and morality. Men often equate these concepts, judging others based on their moral behavior. However, true righteousness is not about adherence to a moral code but is defined solely by the imputed righteousness of Jesus Christ. In the parable of the Pharisee and the publican, we see that the self-righteous Pharisee viewed himself as morally upright, yet it was the repentant publican who was justified before God. This illustrates that righteousness comes from God and not from human standards of morality.
