What does the Bible say about Saul of Tarsus?

Answered in 3 sources

Saul of Tarsus, later known as the Apostle Paul, was initially a fierce persecutor of Christians before encountering Christ on the road to Damascus.

The Bible presents Saul of Tarsus as a zealous Pharisee who actively persecuted the early church, consenting to Stephen's stoning and dragging believers from their homes to prison (Acts 7:54-8:3). However, his encounter with Christ on the road to Damascus transformed his life. Acts 9 describes how a light brighter than the sun blinded him and led him to ask, 'Who are you, Lord?' to which Jesus replied, 'I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting' (Acts 9:3-5). This pivotal moment marked the beginning of Paul's ministry as a chosen instrument of God.
