What does the Bible say about seeing God face to face?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that no one can see God and live, yet believers see God through Christ, who reveals God's glory.

In Exodus 33:20, God tells Moses that no one can see His face and live, highlighting the holiness and transcendence of God. However, through Jesus Christ, who is described in John 1:14 as the Word made flesh, we can see God’s glory. Jacob's encounter exemplifies this idea; he declares in Genesis 32:30 that he saw God face to face and yet lived. This paradox is resolved by understanding that Christ, who reveals God's character, allows believers to perceive God’s glory and experience communion with Him. Thus, while God's essence remains hidden, His revelation in Christ enables us to know Him intimately.
