What does the Bible say about selflessness?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that true selflessness is demonstrated through acts of love and giving without seeking recognition.

Selflessness is exemplified in the New Testament by the widow who gave her all to the temple treasury, as noted in Mark 12:41-44. This act was not about the amount given but the spirit behind it—a desire to honor God without expectation of earthly recognition. The Apostle Paul echoes this truth when he reminds the Ephesians that it is more blessed to give than receive (Acts 20:35). Selflessness in giving reflects the nature of Christ, who, despite all his power and wisdom, chose to approach humanity with humility and service.
