What does the Bible say about service and being cumbered?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that while service is important, it should not distract us from sitting at the feet of Christ, which is the one thing needful.

In Luke 10:38-42, we see the story of Martha and Mary, where Martha's service becomes a burden that distracts her from Christ. Jesus gently rebukes Martha, stating that she is 'careful and troubled about many things, but one thing is needful.' This indicates that while serving can be an expression of love, it should never come at the cost of our relationship with Christ, who is our primary focus. Martha's role as a servant is important, yet Jesus calls her back to what is essential: communion with Him.
