What does the Bible say about serving and distraction?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that while serving is commendable, it can become a distraction if it overshadows our focus on Christ.

In Luke 10:38-42, we see Martha serving Jesus while her sister Mary sits at His feet. Jesus acknowledges Martha's commendable desire to serve but points out that she is 'cumbered about much serving.' His response emphasizes that her focus on many tasks has drawn her away from the one necessary thing—intimate time with Him. This passage illustrates that serving should flow from our relationship with Christ, rather than become a source of distraction. Martha's distraction led her to complain and feel burdened, while Mary exemplified the faith that seeks to learn directly from Jesus.
