What does the Bible say about sin and depression?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that sin should cause us to be dejected and depressed, as seen in Psalm 6 where David cries out over his guilt and shame.

In Psalm 6, David expresses deep sorrow and depression rooted in his recognition of sin. This psalm is one of the seven penitential psalms, where David grieves over his wrongdoings and the weight of guilt that weighs heavy on his soul. Sin does result in a proper awareness of our fallen state, leading to a state of dejection. When we become comfortable with sin, we risk neglecting the seriousness with which we need to approach our transgressions. Hence, each sin should distress our conscience, leading us to seek God's mercy and restoration.
