What does the Bible say about spiritual death and regeneration?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that spiritual death, resulting from sin, alienates man from God, but regeneration by the Holy Spirit offers new life in Christ.

In Ephesians 4:18, the Apostle Paul explains that when man fell into sin, he became alienated from the life of God, resulting in a darkened understanding and perverted affections. Although man retains certain faculties such as understanding and will, these are corrupted and incapable of acknowledging God without divine intervention. The only path for a sinner to return to God is through regeneration, becoming a new creation in Christ, which involves not just redemption by the blood of Christ, but also the transformative power of the Holy Spirit to reorient the heart and mind toward God.
