What does the Bible say about spiritual rest?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that true rest is found in Christ, ceasing from our works and relying on His finished work for salvation.

In Hebrews 4:10, it states, 'For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.' This indicates that spiritual rest is not about inactivity but about trusting fully in the work Christ has accomplished for us. Jesus calls His followers not to labor for the 'meat that perisheth' but to seek the 'meat which endureth unto everlasting life' (John 6:27). This rest signifies a deep-seated trust in Christ's sufficiency and a rejection of striving for approval through our own efforts.

Furthermore, in the sermon, it is emphasized that the hardest work is often to quit striving and to truly rest in Christ’s provision for our salvation. As Christ is our true bread from heaven (John 6:33), He invites us to come to Him for sustenance, meaning that all our spiritual needs are fully met in Him alone. Through believing in Christ, we find the rest that helps us cease from efforts to earn favor, thus experiencing peace and assurance in our eternal standing with God.
