What does the Bible say about suffering and God's goodness?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that both health and suffering are part of God's good providence and serve a purpose for our spiritual growth (Romans 8:28).

The Scriptures affirm that the Lord's goodness is evident both in granting our desires and in sending trials. Romans 8:28 states, 'And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.' This means that even in suffering, God has a sovereign purpose aimed at our spiritual well-being. Our limited view can prevent us from recognizing the beneficial outcomes of trials, but in hindsight, many believers reflect on hardships as instruments for growth in grace. Hence, both health and afflictions are tools in the hands of a loving God, contributing to our sanctification.
