What does the Bible say about suffering and God's purpose in it?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that suffering can have a purpose in God's divine plan, as seen in Job's experience.

In the book of Job, we see that suffering is not always a direct punishment for sin, as Eliphaz suggested to Job. Instead, God can have a greater purpose behind our suffering, which may be hidden from us. In Job 6, Job expresses his intense grief and questions his friends' misguided accusations of personal sin leading to his suffering. The overarching truth is that while Job suffers greatly, God's hand is at work, allowing such trials to refine faith and draw believers closer to Him. Romans 8:28 assures us that God works all things for good for those who love Him, demonstrating that suffering can be used for spiritual growth and deepening our reliance on God's grace.
