What does the Bible say about suffering and sickness?

Answered in 1 source

The Bible teaches that sickness is governed by God's will, and is for His glory.

In John 11:4, Jesus states, 'This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.' This highlights that physical suffering and sickness have purpose in the divine plan of God. For believers, it serves to showcase God's glory and mercy, as understood in Romans 8:28, which reminds us that all things work together for good to those who love God. Sickness, therefore, can be seen as an opportunity for God's wonderful work to be displayed, reinforcing that our physical frailties are under His sovereign control.
