What does the Bible say about the afflictions of Christ?

Answered in 2 sources

The Bible teaches that the afflictions of Christ are complete in their redemptive work, and believers' suffering is a participation in His ongoing work for the church.

The apostle Paul declares in Colossians 1:24 that his sufferings fill up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ. This does not imply a deficiency in Christ's atoning work, as Jesus' suffering was wholly sufficient for redemption. Instead, Paul's suffering reflects the ongoing afflictions endured by the church, which participate in Christ's sufferings as His body. Christians are called to embrace their trials, understanding they serve a purpose in God’s plan to spiritually perfect His people and draw them closer to Him.
