The apostle Paul declares in Colossians 1:24 that his sufferings fill up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ. This does not imply a deficiency in Christ's atoning work, as Jesus' suffering was wholly sufficient for redemption. Instead, Paul's suffering reflects the ongoing afflictions endured by the church, which participate in Christ's sufferings as His body.
